Make a home for your little friends in the garden. It only takes a little bit of DIY skill to build a nestbox - and it's easy.
Step 1 of 6: Fix the round timber securely on the sawhorse and start by removing the core of the round timber. Start by making parallel plunge cuts about 20 cm deep at the left and right, turn the round timber through 90 degrees and repeat.Caution:There is an increased risk of kickback with this technique. It is essential to observe the safety precautions in the Instruction Manual and to use this technique only if you are experienced in it.
Step 2 of 6: Now make a bucking cut to separate the body from the rest of the round timber. Make an angled cut for the slope of the roof which will come later.
Then cut a disk of wood about 3 cm thick from a trunk with a straight, vertical bucking cut. This will form the base.
Step 3 of 6: Cut out the plank for the roof from the remainder of the round timber with 2 longitudinal cuts. Remember that the roof needs to be longer (about 30 cm overall) that the body diameter to keep rain out of the entrance hole.
Step 4 of 6: Now drill the entrance hole. The diameter depends on the species of bird. 28 mm is ideal for bluetits and 32 mm for great tits.
Step 5 of 6: Nail the base firmly to the body.
Step 6 of 6: Then fasten on the roof ... and the nestbox is finished!
